Pour some blue milk on the curb for Star Wars: Saga Edition...

...as today WotC announced that they weren't renewing the license.

However, it had a really good run and I feel like they got out enough books to cover the essentials, so I can't complain. Anything they didn't include could probably be cobbled together from existing examples and some research on wookieepedia.

I did just order the 2 supplements I didn't have and a copy of the second printing of the main book (since it's got all of the errata baked in...and some of the errata is very significant), and pre-ordered the next/last supplement. I guess they'll stop selling books altogether in August, so consider this a PSA to pick them up while you can, unless you want to try to get a good deal on used books at GenCon or something.

My view of the game is undoubtedly colored by an excellent GM and group, but it is my favorite iteration of the d20 system. Possibly my favorite iteration of "crunchy, traditional RPG, class-and-level-based system," period. (Though the classes and levels are so broad and easily mixed-and-matched that it sometimes feels like a point-buy system with the "game balance" elements of a level-based system.) Streamlined, yet very flexible, and encourages the sort of action one sees in Star Wars at its best. I kind of want to adapt it to other purposes. It should work well for just about any sort of action-oriented sci-fi (Firefly! Cowboy Bebop! Some of our sessions veered close to that kind of thing), but I think without access to advanced weapons and technology, Force-users would dominate heavily. Which is to say, reskinning the Force as "magic" and handing the "normals&quit; bows and arrows and swords would probably not fly.

Unless...perhaps you could split up the Force powers and Talents into categories that require separate Feats. The more "magicy" ones could represent different schools of magic and the more combat-oriented ones could represent specialized combat training or "chi" or whatever.

Anyway, I should get to bed. I do actually have a normal life-update kind of post 75% written, but I've been out and about a lot and doing much of my internetting on my phone, so it's been difficult to type anything lengthy.
