Busy weekend!
Saturday was given over to the last session of our
Star Wars campaign. It was such a satisfying wrap-up that it's hard to be too sad that it ended, though I suspect I'll suffer withdrawal pangs once it sinks in. More on this later, but Talia actually lived! After the game, everyone came over to our place to watch Return of the Jedi, since our version was drastically different (though similar in a few key ways). We didn't start watching until late, though, because we spent a lot of time working out our characters' futures...the epilogue, as it were.
On Sunday we ran to the gym for a very quick workout, then ran way out to Brookfield to watch Watchmen on an "Ultrascreen" with a very large group of people. More about that later, too. Short version: I mostly liked it (even the changes, especially the Big Change) but didn't like some specific things, especially Ozymandias. We had vague plans to all go out to dinner afterward, but it snowed while we were in the theater and was nasty and becoming dark outside so we all fled home. Except that once we got close to Milwaukee, the roads weren't so bad, so those of us who live in or nearish to the East Side went to
Cempazuchi, which may be my new favorite local Mexican restaurant even though my dinner was only so-so. (My leftovers reheated better than it tasted fresh, though.) There was much film analysis and so on.
In other news:
- I love Daylight Saving Time. I didn't have to leave work in the dark! I hate leaving work in the dark, it makes me feel like the day is ruined. Plus, driving in the dark blows, especially when it's wet out.
- Mrs. Bennett is an underrated Heroes character, I like her quite a bit.
- I think I need a break from the gym. I recently tried to amp up my pushups routine with longer sets, and I've actually gotten worse.
- For my on-again, off-again quest to improve my (highly deficient) hand and forearm strength, I ordered some
latex-free exercise bands of varying resistances. They arrived today. They say they're latex-free, but they feel like regular rubber bands and smell like them (to me, anyway...
mrsmetallian says they smell different to her, and I may not be the best judge after 7+ years of avoidance) so they make me a little twitchy and uncomfortable. But I have to say that it's a good exercise! I'll keep an eye out for any nasty rashes...
