Monthly catch up

I can't believe it's been over a month since I posted. Today feels like the first day in which I have pretty much nothing to do in that time span though.

I've applied to over 20 teaching jobs in the state and have gone to (non-teaching) 2 job fairs. I've had two interviews with school districts on the east side of the state and on Thursday I'll have an interview with a district, Bremerton, an hour and a half from here. I was actually more excited for the other two job interviews because they were in small towns with small schools. I believe this school is in the largest classification in the state.

At this point I cannot complain much about where a job may come from. I cannot afford my rent, car insurance, student loan payments, or anything except breathing. It is pretty much the worst feeling in the world to have to live off of other people's charity until a job happens for me or until my first substitute teaching paycheck (if I'm not hired anywhere). That first sub paycheck would be on October 31. It seems like an eternity away.

Grant and I moved into a house with his brother Stephen. I like the house alright, except there is no AC and only a few windows that actually open. The neighborhood is totally shitty because it's a housing development. I could probably piss out my window and hit the neighbor's house. Since I don't know about my job situation I've pretty much refused to unpack. I've been sleeping on my mattress on the ground with my sleeping bag because I don't want to lug my box spring upstairs.

I do know there will be an opening at one of the schools I sub at in the middle of the year. I won't go into anymore details than that but I would be the obvious front runner for this position for the remainder of the year.

My softball team won the league championship last week. This was one of my worst hitting years and I'm probably going to have to completely re-do my swing. I do still feel like I've done my job, I brought up my average by probably 250-300 points in the last half of the season and played well at catcher. Yes, normally you put your retards who can't field there but not one runner took an extra base on an overthrow this year because I back up firstbase. We also had several plays at the plate. When I think about it I know I've gotten my team some extra outs and saved some runs from being scored this season. Plus, it's nice to know that I'll be playing in one position all year where I had been bounced around between first, second, right field, right-center, pitcher, and catcher the last two seasons. Knowing that I'll be catching, no matter what, is easier on the mind than being the super utility guy... especially knowing that I could potentially get stuck in the outfield.

The band is still going slowly as we don't have a new lead guitarist yet. We have a show on September 2 in Seattle and are practicing and getting ready for that. On Friday Ryan and I will start the preliminary recordings for 2 or 3 new songs. I'm very excited about 2 of them as I feel they show a growth in songwriting and are probably the best songs to date. One can only hope that the right person(s) will hear them and give us a helping hand to the next level.

I'm off to write some lyrics for those two songs. Until the next time, homies, hopefully it will be sooner than the last time.
