I am running Linux! Yay. I know that I've crowed about this before, but I continue to be happy with the sheer quantity of development tools (and other nifty programs) available. And its accessibility! Even if it sometimes takes some digging to find some tools / the tools that you want in your distribution, chances are good you can still find /something/. And it'll be free. And the /source code/ will be free. There's a certain trust there, and in the Linux community's gift culture in general, that I really appreciate. Like I said, accessibility.
Happily awaiting the release of Ubuntu 10.04 on Thursday, at which point I'm nuking my laptop and installing Linux as the primary OS, rather than this testing install tucked away in the 20gb at the back of the hard disk. That's where the XP install that I'll still need for work will go, instead. An' it's high time to nerf XP back to zero, too. Way too many prefetchers and crap running when I first boot up; makes it almost as unbearable to use Carmen as it was to use Win98 on my /old/ laptop. >_>; (This is another one of the primary reasons I finally started experimenting with Linux... Nigh-inevitable OS decay. I really don't think that Microsoft tests security patches for operating systems that are later in their life cycle as thoroughly.)
(For the record, I don't /hate/ Windows. XP's been pretty good to me. And there are still things that Windows does better, like video. And I will miss NTFS's convoluted and incredibly powerful file permissions. They were a pain in the butt to figure out--and I still don't have them fully mastered--but boy can you do a lot of neat crap with them! XD )
Anyway, I'd better get back to my "good book" for the night: the MySQL reference manual. For such a work, the author's voice is pretty good. XD
In other (and cryptic) news: I can be kinda a jerk. Not usually by action but by inaction. There are too many interesting people and things in this world! ;_; I have my hands full as it is.
Teslaaaa!
...Ha ha, that last bit is probably overly self-indulgent.
