A/N: I don’t write yaoi. Everytime I write, it always turn out to be a terrible failure so this is a little different. Anyway, I wrote this for a friend whom I’ve promised this like two weeks ago.
Nobody in school knows you as much as your best friend, Sun Hee, does. You're always invisible that no one notices you. Some people don't even know you existed! They always thought you were a new student but no, you've been a student there for quite a long time already. You tried to get into the limelight but nothing really works. Just once, people will notice you as Cha Yoomi. You want to make more friends instead of sitting alone when Sun Hee isn't around.
You become shyer when it comes to the handsome student, Kang Junkyu. He is, in fact, one of the most popular students who get a lot of attention, especially from the girls. Seriously, who wouldn't pay any attention from someone like him who has a cute and angelic smile? And you have been having a crush on him ever since you first saw him.
"Look at him. Look at all the girls. And here I am, eating dumplings, getting no attention from anyone besides you," you complained to Sun Hee, while looking at Junkyu during lunch.
"Yah, Cha Yoomi, be glad I'm your friend."
"I know, just that, I'm so invisible and no one even knows me. Some of the people in our class don't even know I existed!"
"Some people prefer not to have any attention at all."
"How does it feel when people say 'Since when you are in our class?' every single day? It's annoying. I don't want so much attention but wouldn't it at least be nice when someone recognizes you?"
After lunch, class continues as per normal. The day just seemed to go on and on and made everyone wants to sleep. After school, you head to the library as you needed to borrow some research book for your assignment. You groan as you stepped out the library with two thick books in your hands and you can't exactly fit them into your bag. Maybe you should just sit in the library and do the assignments but you really want to be at home already.
Your bangs are covering your eyes so you tried to fix your hair while walking and your other hand carrying the research books. You weren't really paying attention to where you were walking when you bumped into someone.
"Ouch!" he yelped. The thick books had fallen onto the boy's feet and although he was wearing sneakers, the books are pretty heavy so it might hurt him a bit.
"Oh, mianhe!" you apologized.
"It's okay. I'm fine," he reassured. "Oh, Yoomi-ah!"
Your eyes widened and looked up to see Junkyu standing before you but that made you gasped. How on earth does he know your name? And why, of all people, must you bump into him?
Junkyu grinned while you stood frozen at your spot. He bends down to pick up the books and gave it to you. You were still in shock but you quickly shake you head, coming back to sense.
"H-how do y-you know m-my name?" you asked stutteringly.
Junkyu chuckled, "You're my classmate. How could I not know your name?"
You raised an eyebrow and swallowed your saliva. The fact that the most popular boy in school is standing before you, the girl who gets the least attention (or never), is talking to you.
"Is there a problem? You don't want me to know your name?" Junkyu asked.
"No!" you answered. It was loud which almost made him jump so you softened your voice. "It's not that I don't want you to know my name. It's just that...I barely get noticed and people don't even know me."
Junkyu laughed, "I get it. I know you are the girl who barely gets noticed."
"It's not that I want to be popular or anything just-"
Junkyu cuts you off and repeated himself, "I get it."
"You do?"
"Of course," he said. "Are you heading home? Can I accompany you? I'll carry your books for you."
You were surprised at that offer. You can't even say anything but you nodded in agreement. Junkyu took the books from your hands and started walking beside you. You felt your cheeks burning red because your crush is walking next to you, carrying books for you. Better, he recognizes you unlike some students who don't even know your name.
"I actually noticed that you don't get much attention. Wonder why that is so," Junkyu begins.
"No idea why," you replied. "It's been like that since I first stepped into the school."
"That's not good. You are a really nice person, I can tell. You deserve people to at least know your name."
"I'm just glad Sun Hee doesn't care about how invisible I am. She always stays by my side."
"That means she is a very good friend."
"Yeah she is."
"And because I know your name," Junkyu asked, "does that mean I'm your friend too?"
That question caught you suddenly. You bit your lip before answering, "I guess so."
The both of you actually took the time to get to know more about each other. Well, Junkyu asked the most questions, asking about your hobbies, what you like and if you had a crush on someone (you didn't answer to that at all). You can't wait to tell Sun Hee about it and you can guarantee that she'll freak out the moment you tell her.
You reached the front of your house where instead of passing you back the books, he took out his from phone from his pocket. He asked, "Can I have your number?"
You gulped. You took out your phone and exchange with his to dial each other's number. After he gave back your phone, he passed you back your books and gives you that angelic smile of his which you adore the most.
"I'm glad to know more about you, Yoomi-ah," he said. "You're a really nice person."
You couldn't answer but all you could do is give him back a smile.
He added, "And maybe I could introduce you to more people. You're a really friendly person."
"You don't really have to," you answered.
"Well, you can't spend the rest of your school life being totally invisible. At least some recognition would do."
You smiled back at him.
"And if you want to," Junkyu begins. "I was thinking if we go out or something. Just the two of us."
Another question took you by surprise. You swallowed back your saliva, nodded at Junkyu and promptly looking away, trying to hide your blushed cheeks.
"Great! I'll see you around then," Junkyu bids you farewell before turning around and walking away.
Who knew the guy who gets so much attention from girls in school could actually recognize a girl who constantly gets ignored by the people around her, except for family, Sun Hee and probably some teachers? And he is actually willing to make people get to know more about you. Better, who knew your crush actually asked you out?
This is one thing you could definitely not forget about.
