LJ Fail: Taggage Fraggage

Oct 02, 2008 20:33

See Mesila decide she's finally had all she can take of the sidebar with over 200 different tags on it.

See her spend a bunch of time consolidating them in anticipation of actually backing up what is now almost eight years of journalling, and at the same time consolidating the Irreality posts she's got on file with it, essentially filling up that time at the start of the year when I dove off LJ to Irreality, up until the day in July when it rolled over and coughed up phlegm and died.

See her shake her head at the mess of tags and wonder why she didn't catch on sooner that posts ought not be tagged with the first thing to cross the mind nor should they be tagged with tons of hyphenations.

See her gape at the worst offence of all - synonyms. See her consolidate "ranting" and "anger" and "angst" under one tag. See her mesh "writing" with "prose", as well as "poetry" with "verse". See both "books" and "authors" become "literature".

And so on.

See most of the one-shots get hosed.

See "video snarf" trimmed to just "video"...see all posts about pot, acid, et cetera grouped under "drugs", save for "methadone" since it has 6 posts and involves issues beyond itself...

See Choronzon entity" and "Choronzon project" become "the c project" and "Choronzon" to disambiguate between the HUGE number of posts on THAT SUBJECT, the #1 most used tag on this thing. See her not be at all surprised.

See her find a particular post she'd not seen in a while and decide to shunt it to Memories.

SEE HER STARE, UNBELIEVINGLY, as she realises this JACKASS SYSTEM TAGS MEMORIES WITH A WHOLE, ENTIRELY DIFFERING TAG SCHEMA.

See her too tired to explode to the admins here...especially since she realises this particular issue ought to have been handled by SixApart on THE FIRST DAY they introduced tagging to Livejournal.

See this post get tagged "techno-angst", like all other posts about techno-angst are, now, whether they are angsting about failing Windows or Livejournal idiocy.
