Today, a friend and I happened to go to a pet-food store. She needed cat food and so did I. We decided to split a 20 pound bag since it was much cheaper that way but neither of us wanted the full 20 pounds. (She's thinking about changing her cat's food and I'm just trying this stuff out to see if my cat will eat it.)
So, we get to the register and I paid for the bag. The total was $11.59 including tax. I asked my friend for $5.00 (Yes, I know that's not half, but it's close enough for that particular relationship.) She agreed and we went our merry way. When we arrived at her house (112 miles away from my house) we realized that we had no way to accurately divide the cat food. We finally decided on the guess system. We poured half the bag into a box for me to take home and put in large plastic containers while she kept the bag. I did my best to measure half but when I got home, I had to weigh it and find out. I was off by a bit more than I expected. My lot came out to be 11 pounds, 5.4 ounces. Initially, I was a little concerned about this. After all, I had over a pound more than she did. Then I figured out how much she should have had based on what she paid me. For the amount she received, she should have paid me $5.02. Well, she paid me the $5.00 and she's given me her two cents worth on many occasions. ;-)
It's funny how things workout, sometimes.
