The Bravest Hunter - A short, basic guide

The following quotes I took from what patchesohollahan sent me via PM.
This basic guide has been written for people who are playing online directly on Kongregate. Offline players might want to read the inofficial walkthrough, too.

„Basically, since our character isn’t the greatest in the beginning, you are kind of going to have to/ want to grind the 3-area level one stage („The Depth“). This is important to grind, as it always gives you one Treasure Box, sometimes even two and also a very good return on HR and exp/gold. This is how you can “stock up”. Once I got a good supply, I didn’t have friends, but the „friends“ tab at the tavern gives you a random list of people the same level as you. Pick the one with the highest amount of action points and a shield. Put them in front of you. I started with a spear, then switched to an axe, since the requirements for upgrading spears got a little high. Then you have to play around a little bit to upgrade your weapons, you also will get the Garuda Shield and Dragon Saber as a reward for clearing ten/twenty dungeons. Once you get either those or equivalent equipment, you do the Viegraff Challenge. Once you defeat him, you go to the tavern and hire him. Basically, from there you can win the game.

„With Viegraff alone I beat the game, but later I got Gabriel as well. With the two of them you can beat anyone in the game, as long as you don’t run out of items. Another thing not many people do or even think about in my opinion, is that especially before you encounter strong enemies, you might want to leave one single enemy with low health, then skip your turn until you end up with 20 AP for max combos. With Chili pepper, I was able to defeat Gabriel with Viegraff in one turn. Also, as long as you pick Treasure Chest/Tent as your top choice, then Magic Portal, then Magic Box, Enemy Encounter, Dark Room, Legion, Wanderer (in that order), you can avoid fights, and the enemies you do fight should be relatively easy. Also, make sure to utilize the potions/peppers/iron skins before the match starts, so that it doesn’t cost any AP.“

„I assumed that you would always click next floor if possible, unless you have a treasure chest. Clumsy wizard I don’t really have a spot for because it depends on how badly you need a heal/invincibility/double damage.“
