I had a god smakingly good day at club soccer today. Rain had transformed Kenyon into a dark, wet, and terribly depressed campus. I decided, as I had not gone out and run around for quite some time, to go and play my afternoon away with the club soccer team. I slipped on my nicest cleats and socks and biked down to the fields where we practice on Mondays and Tuesdays. Dispite only three other people showing up we still managed to have a good time in the rain. The field was wet and soft enough to land bicycle kicks on our rumps; so we all had a few and good laughs followed each of our attempts.
As the play went on and the rain worsened. Each shot on the goal was accompanied by the low tremors of the day's storm moving closer and closer. In all the fun we failed to notice that lighting was striking within miles of us and the rain had blinded our eyes with its watery din. Only then did we think to call it a day and slop back to our homes and rooms.
Unfortunately for me the slopping went a little slower than the rest - during one of my shots I had managed to let my right big toe bite into the soggy ground before it wallopped the ball thenceforth. With no obvious pain I continued to play, but as I tried to run I noticed that I had no control at all over my right foot. I would try to lift it up so I could advance it to my next step and found that, limply, it would just dangle off of my ankle like a dead piece of meat. This made walking a disaster: I could not control the angle of my foot giving my right toes leisure to droop into the ground and stumble me. Most of tonight walking has been irritably comical as I try to get from one place to another and find that my foot is never quite where I expect it to be.
I think I'll sleep it off.
Ooh! I also got some new shampoo and Gretchan really likes the way it smells!
