Snow. What else?

There's a gas leak on our street. The utility guys have been working all night long, just up the street from our house. The actually works out nicely for us. We easily drove up the street to our house last night (just had to move a traffic cone) and can leave as long as we go the wrong way down the street. But best of all... to get to the street, they had to first remove the snow.

The area in front of our house is totally clear -- sidewalk to street, from our driveway to our uphill neighbor's. Halle-freakin-lujah.

By the way, most of our neighbors have been really good about keeping a path cleared on the sidewalk. Our uphill neighbors must go through a ton of icemelt and teenage labor because theirs is always clean to the concrete. Our downhill neighbors apparently just gave up. There's a path from our driveway to their front door (presumably so they can get to the street) and their driveway is clear, but between the two, there's a 7 foot mound of snow blocking the sidewalk. There's a word for people like that.

There's water leaking into one of the windows in the library. I spent way too much time with a hair dryer last night softening the 1/2"-thick slab of ice between the pane & the screen. I stuffed the space with rags in the hope they'll soak up the water, but I think that just means removing icy rags tonight instead of a slab of ice. I can get some of the ice off the outside of the screen, but it's going to be a perpetual battle.

We ordered some of those ice melt pucks, which I hope arrive sooner rather than later. And then we have to figure out how to remove the bolted-in AC unit from the bedroom so I can toss them on the roof over the library.

In the mean time, I made a few stocking bombs with ice melt. Two are in places where I could reach, but aren't particularly problem areas. Still, it felt better to be doing something and who knows, it might help. One I managed to chuck out my sewing room window and onto the roof above the TV room. That place needs help. They're all tied to twine, both so I didn't lose any in the multiple attempts to toss into place and so I can reel in the empty stockings when the thaw comes. You know, in June.
