2 Albert Stories

Jan 13, 2015 09:12

Albert is a cat of ritual and precision. One of the rituals is that when new_man has a meal in the TV room, Albert gets some treats, which he loves, carefully doled out, despite Albert's desperate (yet adorable) snuffling at new_man's hand.

The other day new_man had breakfast with Albert and by default grabbed some treats. Albert didn't want any treats. He had after all just had his own breakfast and treats are an afternoon/evening thing. new_man put the treats on the little table and forgot about them. All day. It is to be noted that the little table is the same height as the day bed and tends to get pushed up right against it. And Albert has of late taken to walking out onto the table. Late in the evening, when we returned home, Albert was lounging on the day bed and the treats were on the table. All of them. Apparently treats are no good unless given out by The Hand of The Man.

Yesterday morning, new_man had to prepare for a carpentry job, so he couldn't give Albert the usual amount of morning attention. Albert followed him around the house. new_man went down into the basement to get some tools and Albert tried to follow him. The basement is damp, dirty, and has bits of sharp stuff all over the floor. Not a Albert place. new_man shooed Albert away. Albert persisted in heading down the basement stairs, so new_man did something he rarely does -- he yelled at Albert. Albert ran up the stairs into the kitchen and pushed the basement door closed with his head.
