This challenge is where I give a discussion topic and members discuss it! It is as simple as that really but make sure the posts you add don't just say 'I agree' as that won't be accepted.
Make sure to discuss with members from other teams as well as your teams, I know this

As for comparisons to other Arthurian work, well obviously the ages are very different, as are Gwen's position and the other changes. And the immense continuity fail.
Yeah, I'm not sure I understand the question, lol....just comparing the show to other shows, or the fandoms, or both? :s

-The Princess Bride (Lancelot's backstory = Inigo's, having devoted his entire life to learning to fight after having watched his family be slaughtered as a child; Arthur and Merlin's poisoned goblets on the beach scene mirrors Westley and Vizzini's scene quite closesly; they legitimately had ROUS's on the show in the form of the wildren; Mary Collins is the scary-looking Ancient Booer in the courtyard; Sir Oswald is not left-handed, but was just trying to make the fight last a bit longer; the scene where "Sir Oswald" and "Sir Ethan" are quite obviously dead and Uther asks Gaius if there's anything he can do for them = Miracle Max with the mostly-dead vs. all-dead)
-Monty Python and the Holy Grail (it's more that there's a lot of crossover potential, but there are the basic Arthurian legend spoofs; the Black Knight; the "burn the witch" scene seems to match the anti-magic logic at times; Anhora = Tim the Enchanter with his random and unecessary teleporting being as useless as Tim's explosions; ( ... )

But I see where you're coming from. ;D
Haven't seen all of those films, though.

John Hurt was in HP? :s And loll I did think of Buckbeak's flight during that scene, and his "King of the World" gesture which had been in that scene in HP.
Also the gryffins in this series (seen in 1x05) totally look like hypogriffs!

It's interesting to see how the character can fit quite well in those costumes xD even if I'd put Colin as Tom, and so Merlin as Clark -Bradley looks even more gorgeous with Tom's body, YUM. And I'd put Lana as Gwen, cos they're tiny and cute... and Lois (which isn't here) would definetly be Morgana *.*
Uther as Clark's father makes me LOL so much. He used to be sweet and caring, so that would be totally Gaius ;)

This is how I'd arrange the 'heads' too. Colin/Merlin definitely as Tom/Clark. By default, then, Arthur would have to Lex (and in early Smallville, Clark and Lex were friends, Clark did save Lex's life, and did keep his special powers from him, so there are parallels).
Uther would have to be the older Luthor (didn't we have a conversation already that John Glover would have been a good Uther?) And Gaius would have to be Clark's father so let's switch those heads around :)
Hmmm....I'm undecided about Gwen and Morgana. Morgana as Lana and Gwen as Chloe seem okay to me here, though if Lois were in the pic, I'd probably change my mind.
Merlin = Smallville FTW!

Always bb xD

YES we did. We actually did predict this very moment weeks ago. How magic is Team Merlin???? Srsly!
Arthur as Lex.... I can totally see that. He's s totally fascinated by Clark, the country boy, and he has this aura of power which sometimes can best out even Lionel's.
Luckly Art/Merl aren't going to be each other nemesis, but quite the contrary.. so YAY for us I guess xD
oh, here comes the epic crossover:

I also feel a lot of HP parallels in Merlin - the idea that friendship is important, that none of the main characters have a traditional family like Harry and they create their own bonds. I think there's a bit of a Dumbledore/Harry feel to Gaius and Merlin sometimes - the educator and the young powerful wizard he believes in and would sacrifice himself for without thought.

There's A LOT of that. Even if, I have to say that wheter in the tv show we have the Gaius/Merlin which helps a lot on the comparison of Dumbledore/Harry, in the legend I can see that role with Merlin/Arthur.. you know, with Merlin being the trusted advisor and a sort of guardian and more witted kind of man. Which I guess it's quite nice ♥

I'm trying to work out Morgana and Gwen in the Potter analogy but... getting nowhere, lol.
