that sorta thing happened to me in november.....cept my harddrive decided to die and I hadn't backed up since august (and apparently when I backed up last my pictures and documents didn't copy like I thought they did)....now I backup like once a month (or whenever I add a lot of new files)....but Apple thankfully replaced the harddrive for me thanks to my extended warranty....

Warranties = life savers, seriously.

I just hope that I can recover my files. I'll definitely start backing 'em up, at least once a week...I mean, that's what I got the external HD for in the first place.

Why I buy dells, cheapest warranty and when it DOEs expire, cheap parts off ebay:)

Also helps to work for them:)

If you were not able to get data off the drive and still have it, I have access to some software at work that might be able to do something as long as the computer you had was running Windows.

Thanks, but I managed to get the data back! All I had to do was put the HD into an external enclosure, and plug it into a different computer, and ba-boom - the data was accessible.

I guess it really was just one of the boot files corrupted or something.
