Diode breakdowns make Maxwell's Demon cry...

Well, it wasn't quite a rude awakening, but I didn't exactly have a fun morning today.

Woke up, fairly (not really) well-rested, and went to my computer...flipped up the screen, and it was blank.
Turned it off, then on. It refused to boot up.

Long story short, after panicking, calling Dell, panicking more while waiting on hold for half an hour, we managed to confirm that the hard drive of my laptop decided to lie down for awhile. HOPEFULLY, it's just a corruption of the OS' files...in which case I may be able to rig up the HD with an external kit and copy my files off of it. Like an idiot, I haven't backed up pretty much anything...my notes, my projects, my resume and all my stories are on that hard drive. I should've copied them to my external, weeks ago.

Anyway. Hopefully I haven't really lost anything except some time. And Dell is sending a replacement HD in two days or less, they claim...thank goodness for extended warranties.

I definitely need to get a desktop computer as a backup, though. I do NOT like being cut off from the 'net, at all. I don't know if it's addiction, but it feels like being blindfolded and mute...this really sick, sinking feeling when I realized that my laptop was not having a simple problem, it was not going to work.

On the plus side of things, I did have an interesting conversation last night. And I am really sore from gym, but it's a good kind of sore, I think.
