I am not moving to Barbados this fall. In fact, I don't think I'm going to move forward with that plan for a few more years. The big reason for this: my grandma and great-aunt are getting older (almost 84 and almost 90 respectively) and I don't think they're going to be around much longer. I want to be able to say goodbye to them. So, Barbados can wait until they are gone.
Also, I realized that I absolutely love being a student. And I mean love it. I love the thrill of learning, of reading textbooks, of researching and writing papers. So I am seriously looking at going back to school in January 2011. It looks like I can "upgrade" my degree and I'm thinking of pursuing the Honours BA with a Specialization in Classical Studies. I was originally thinking of pursuing a double major (Music and Classical Studies) but it would appear that the major in Classical Studies route won't allow me the possibility of getting my MA in Classical Studies. So...the specialization seems to be an interesting option. And with my musical background, and the minor I just got, I can still pursue my research interests: the theory of, and practical application of ancient Greek music. Ever since I built a model of a Greek aulos, I have been fascinated with ancient music. I remember being disappointed in my music history classes that the music of ancient Greece and Rome was crammed together into one 90 minute lecture. There's so much more to ancient Greek music than that! Plus, the thought of higher education that could possibly lead to my Ph.D. is so exciting to me! Watching those students receive their doctoral hoods last week...was just amazing. I want to do that!
So, in order to finance my educational dreams, I have accepted a job with a former coworker. I will be starting in September, doing what I was doing before at CORADIX - recruiting and proposal writing. For the summer, I will be working part-time for Megan's office. I'm covering her 2 days a week while she takes the summer off to recuperate and recover from the loss of her baby.
I'm also going to look at a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom condo next month. It is absolutely priced to sell and my uncle has put in a really good word for me with the seller.
Life just keeps me on my toes. :)
