Sometimes it sucks to be right...

Well, I saw that one coming...

After waiting for a week for the parts to fix my car to come in, they discovered that the old ignition coils, in the process of their demise, got blown out of their sockets with enough force to strip the threads in the engine that hold them in place. Apparently those threads can't be fixed (at least not in situ and/or by my garage), and as long as those threads are stripped, any new coils would soon blow out because there's nothing to hold them in.

So, my little car needs a new head, and a rebuilt one will be on its way today from Alabama, of all places (that's the closest one they could find). They'll install it as soon as it comes in, and hopefully I'll have a running car of my own again by the end of the week. It isn't a catastrophic turn of events, but it is a most unwelcome one. Looks like I'm closing in on that $1,000 repair bill after all... *deep sigh*

I'll freely admit that I don't know much about internal combustion engines, so I haven't a clue if I'm getting screwed over by the garage or not. I really don't think so, because I've had good dealings before with them. If nothing else, they're certainly more trustworthy than some of the other auto mechanics I've dealt with around here. In any case, I don't have much choice in the matter, because I don't have the skills or the resources to make any repairs myself.
