The bf flew in from Singapore for the weekend, and yesterday a bunch of friends came over and we all made tangyuan together! It was a hilarious affair with many a botched tangyuan, but the main thing that stuck with me was one of my materials science classmates telling me she was excited to finally meet the bf. It wasn't something I normally thought would be particularly exciting so I asked her why, and she said "because you smile more!". While that technically isn't the reason, it was true that I smile more when surrounded by old friends. After 3 years in Brown barely getting along with my fellow countrymen, it was so nostalgic sitting around with friends from JC and gossiping in Singlish. It's going to be sad when we're all working scattered across the globe in the near future and might only see each other once every few years.
