Christchurch fall down go boom

No it wasn't me this time either.

Christchurch had another earthquake. I was at work on the second floor and we felt it - it was long and rolling, and everyone's first thought was Christchurch. And sure enough.

Only this time it's been much worse. Last September, although the earthquake then was 7.1, it was deeper and further away and in the middle of the night. There was damage, but nobody died and nobody was even really seriously injured (a couple of people had heartattacks I think). But it took the city a good while to recover properly - people were stressed and upset and the aftershocks went on and on, until, I'm told, people kinda developed a battlezone mentality. Buildings were being repaired and strengthened, but they were still a work in progress. We didn't need overseas aid, cos we r so awesum and ready . . .

This time we weren't so lucky. It was in the middle of the day in a city where the buildings had already been weakened. The earthquake was only 6.1, but it was shallower and much closer.

And people are dead. 65 so far. I just . . . there's no words, there's really no words. We were so lucky last time . . . so relieved. This time, yeah . . this time we're hurting.
