So, once again it's been months since I've updated. My life has been really busy. It's October and I don't know where the summer went. But the fall is my favorite time of year, and maybe I'll have time to post a bit more.
So, what's been happening with me.
Fandom:
Supernatural: I'm giving them a few eps to get their act together. I thought the first ep was kind of…stiff. I'm not buying it yet. And Samuel and the cousins? What's the deal with them?
Castle: is still as enjoyable as it ever was. I love the characters.
Mentalist: I watched all of season 2 a couple of weeks ago. I really like this show. Patrick Jane is so broken. I like that in a character.
Memphis Beat: The J's rec'd this show to me. It's very entertaining.
Stargate SG-1: I didn't watch the show passed season 5 when it was on. Seriously, when Daniel ascended, I stopped watching it -- well aside from a couple of eps here and there (only 1 in season 6, though). I couldn't stand the guy they got to replace Daniel. But that's a rant for another time. Anyway, for various reasons, I've pulled it out again. More on that below.
Writing:
When I was uploading all of my stories up to
AO3, I found a couple of Stargate SG-1 stories that I had written in 2002 and never posted. There were 3 of them. 2 sort of fluffy pieces and one serious (and long) story. All had been beta'd. I read over them, and while they aren't perfect, they are not that bad, either.
I posted the first of the stories:
Retirement Papers on my website and on AO3
here. It's from season 5 and as such, is an AU where Daniel doesn't ascend and Jack retires while still a colonel.
The second one will probably go up in a week or so. I want to read it again.
The longer one, a Daniel gets raped by aliens and survives, h/c piece I think needs more work. It's 40k words, and I need to read it carefully before I decide what to do with it.
I also found a couple of NICS stories that were done and just needed to be beta'd. Both are short. I'm going to proof them this weekend and see if I can find someone to do a quick beta on them.
I'm also working on a giant J2 AU. I originally wrote this story years ago, but never got it right. It was written in another fandom and the characters didn't lend themselves to this kind of AU. Anyway, I need to rewrite huge chunks of it. So, this might take a while. But I think it's going to be worth the effort.
Rec:
So, I mentioned to
slb44 that I was looking to read a good Stargate story. I assumed she'd send a Jack/Daniel story or two. She sent me the link to a story which she said was very good. And man, it was.
The Broken Wings 'Verse by
synecdochic is probably one of the best fan fiction stories I've ever read. And trust me when I tell you in my nearly 30 years of reading fan fiction, I have read quite a lot of stories, 'verses, and novels. This one so amazingly well done that I was blown-away by it.
This is a huge, complicated, and amazing piece of work and I just loved it. It's an AU that asks what if Cameron Mitchell was actually hurt too badly during the crash in Antarctica to stay with the SGC, and what if the Jack Clone didn't want to go to high school after all. And what if they met and got together. Those questions spawned 273,000+ words of story. It's incredible. I cannot recommend this highly enough. I read it all the way through pretty much in a couple of days, and have started it again to savor it slowly this time.
Seriously, go and read this 'verse.
Life:
This weekend, I'm going over to SHare Con -- a local Starsky and Hutch con run by
Flamingoslim. I'm sort of the edges of that fandom. But I love the old school feel of the con. Plus, Flamingo is a master at throwing a party and always makes it a lot of fun.
Next weekend, I'm going to visit
cordelia_v. I'm looking forward to that, too. Maybe I can get her to watch Stargate with me. *g*
Work is slowing down a bit, but I expect it to pick up again towards the end of next month. But I'm going to enjoy the downtime. Maybe read a few more Jack/Daniel stories.
So, anyone got a few J/D recs to send my way. Or even better, some rec pages. Be warned, I like strong, competent, non-jammie wearing Daniel.
