I made homemade cream of mushroom soup last night for the first time! And totally winged it, Meres'-Dad style (he doesn't believe in recipes.) It turned out quite well, but like most of my sauces/soups ended up a little heavy on the salt. Very tasty with toasted ciabatta dipped in, though ( Read more... )

I hate this move to the political right. I was very disappointed by the UK elections earlier this year and yesterday's Austrian election. I am also scared of recent German poll results and hope they change to the left until our next election, but I am afraid they won't. :(

I totally agree with you. Why would people who fled states with Sharia law or whose lives were threatened by people who want to inforce it to their home country want to turn the country they fled to for safety turn into a Sharia state?

And imagine having have left your home in a relative hurry to get to a safe place before it is too late, not speaking the language, not always knowing where you'll end up and having to deal with adjusting to a new language and culture on top of having to deal with everything they had to witness in their home country/on their journey. Many have PTSD and are depressed and their langauge and culture is practically the only thing they could bring with them. Of course they will need more time to adjust. But what is so bad about Muslim culture?

We needed and invited Turkish laborers after WW II here and most of the people who know act so afraid in Germany have grown up with them. If they haven't turned Germany into a Sharia staste in the last 60 years, why should the Syrians and Iraqis do that now?

It makes no sense to me and I don't how the politicians handle the situation. Calling them "worried citizens" instead of xenophobes/racists all the time. I mean, they regularly set fire to -mostly intended for the future - refugee shelters. That is more than "being worried".

I so hope the crisis in the middle east will be dealt with and the situation improved and that all the western countries can find a decent solution to the "refugee crisis". It makes me so upset.

Heee. Your cat sounds like my first cat. He came for pets every now and then, but mostly didn't want cuddles and started to bite quickly if touched unprovoked by him. I loved him very much most of the time.
