Thoughts and a song

Hello! I am back from a long weekend up that the cottage, and have not caught up on the flist at ALL. Also, last week it were my birthday! It was pretty rad. I got money for nicer cookware and a book and antique-couch-shaped ringholder thingy which is cool. And chocolate. And I may have bought myself a present of a more personal nature with some of my tax rebate. Happy birthday to ME. /TMI

Anyway, I watched the season finale(s) of SPN last night and I have FEELINGS about this.

O.M.G.

Cas is just. Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas. I can't help but feel that if Dean hadn't been such an asshole to Castiel all season, things might have gone better overall. Cas is... well, he's like nothing so much as the unloved child, determined that he is going show he can be good. And then Dean or someone might finally acknowledge him with more than demands. But no, Dean had to go that really fun "if you love me, you'll obey me" route that works so well, especially when he offered no practical alternatives to Cas' pressing problems.

Cas is learning to be what Sam would be if Sam's self-righteousness didn't come with a heaping dose of independence -- being right is its own reward, though Sam seldom is. Cas is a little like what Dean would be if neither John nor Sam had ever uttered a word of praise to him. Dean learned to make do with very little and less than he deserved, but it least he had that little (John was no prize, but Dean knew his father loved him, even if said father was, well, John Winchester.)

Castiel is a rank-and-file angel who has been left very alone. With God MIA, Dean snapping at him at every opportunity, and his brethren either trying to kill him or following him like lost ducklings, what can he do but try to fill the void with only himself? (NB: all this woobieness is greatly leavened with BAMFery and magnificent bastard-ness. Cas, ILU.)

And now we have Dark!Willow. Castiel's wrong and crazy, but dammit, show, he was driven to it.

In conclusion lalalala, denial all summer long in the halls of fandom.

Here, have a song! Austra - The Beast Piano with haunting, opera-trained vocals? Yes pls. The piano reminds me of a Nobuo Uematsu Final Fantasy theme, which I dig.

Now, a bike ride!

run-on sentence theatre, music, i am not making an spn tag dammit, flailing, i like tags, \o/, omfg
