WHITE LIES

Hello people of livejournal,
It's been a while but I thought I'll write a bit. I went to some awesome gigs lately: mars, skrillex, M83, etc. But the most awesome and perfect one was definitively White Lies. Their gig was just: wow!

I had uni till 5 o'clock so I couldn't really leave early, I really wanted to be a bit in the front coz the last time I saw them (as support act with Mars) I could hardly see them. Anoescha and I arrived a bit after the doors went open. We were shocked to find out that hardly anyone was there, of course we were happy because we could stand right in from of the stage but it was really sad too see so little people in such a big space. Fortunately as the night went on a lot more people came and it was almost sold out. Its so weird to have seen White Lies as support act for mars since they sell out the same shows. Both of them sold out the HMH and now 013 (well almost). I guess they're were suppport act coz they're not that known in France yet? White Lies had two support acts: Kensington & the Duke Spirit. Both of them were quite alright I have to day. Kensington is a Dutch band, and I have to say that for a Dutch band they were really good. They had an artic-monkeys-thing about them. I enjoyed them. After Kensington, the duke spirit was up. I really liked them, they have a original sound and nice songs. The girls standing behind me obviously didn't like them. They kept screaming that their singer looked old, that she couldn't sing and that she was ugly. Those girls were so annoying!

And then White Lies started playing. They are amazing! The sound, although it was a bit too loud, was really good. I don't really know what to say other then that they were amazing in every possible sense of the word! They played all of their songs perfectly, they made a real connection with the audience and when they thanked us for coming/singing along/etc. it felt like they really meant it. It didn't feel like one of those empty thank you's that you hear quite often these days. Me and my friends stood right in the front and the lovely and gorgeous singer kept looking at everyone in the eyes. Now I know that's what everyone's always saying and I don't mean to say that he just looked at us but he looked the entire front and second rows right in their eyes, it was beautiful. Oh and there was ZERO pushing even though we were standing against the barrier, what an odd feeling ;)

They played almost all of their songs. So far they've released two albums: to lose my life & Ritual. Both of them have 10 songs, they played 17 songs! It was a good long show, this was how every show should be. Here is the setlist, this probably doesn't mean a lot to most of you but I just want to post it here so I won't forget it: A Place To Hide, Strangers, To Lose My Life, Is Love, Holy Ghost, E.S.T., Streetlights, The Price Of Love, Farewell To The Fairground, From The Stars, Taxidermy, Peace & Quiet, Come Down, Death, Encore: Unfinished Business, The Power & The Glory, Bigger Than Us.

What I like most about them is their mystery. I can imagine that when people listen to White Lies for the first time that they think that they're boring and perhaps unoriginal. I have to admit that I thought that about them myself. But then someone told me to listen to more of their songs and to listen more carefully to their lyrics. I did and now I'm in love and I have been for a couple of years now. They have lyrics like: "I leave my memoirs in blood on the floor and my fears with the nurse on the stairs" I like that. In fact I like that very much! My favorite song is 'the price of love', I'm not really sure what it's about it's so mysterious. And I sure like a mystery or two! The song is about someone who kidnapped someone's wife, but then the kidnapper turns out to be her husband or her lover? and then there is something about it being planned a along. It's all very odd and awesome. Now you may say that I, being a blonde and all, may just now understand the lyrics. I with you on that one coz a lot of the time I'm not quite sure what it's all about. But I looked it up and no one seems to know what the songs is about. They are about 30 different theories what it might be about! Now, there are a lot of mysterious songs in the world where no one really know the meaning behind it. Take Mars, what is from yesterday about? or what is closer to the edge about? The difference with those songs and with 'the price' of love is that when you read the lyrics from 'the price of love' everything seems to simple and easy to understand. But after a while you figure out that it all is not what it seems like. It's like a shocking turn in a horror film.

At the gig I bought a White Lies flask. flask? yes flask! I bought one of those hip flasks (see below, the pic isn't that clear but I couldn't get a clearer one). I thought it was the most hilarious thing ever! They don't seem like the kind of band that would sell Flasks, but they did. And I loved it.

I cant wait to see them again! Too bad their tickets are always so expensive :(
