Today's the Oaks- for 3 year old fillies, and tomorrow is the Derby for 3 year olds of both genders. This year it's 19 colts and a filly- the first filly entered since Eight Belle's tragic breakdown in the 2008 Derby after running 2nd to Big Brown. Rachel Alexandra's connections didn't enter her in the 2009 Derby and instead she whipped the other gals in the Oaks by over 20 lengths. Boring race.
But that was last year.
Anyway, today's Oaks has Blind Luck heavily favored. And my dorky self would like to see her take the Oaks and Lookin' at Lucky take the Derby so that the headlines say "Lucky weekend in Kentucky".
I will be rooting for the filly Devil May Care, she's a sentimental choice and I love her name, and then also Lookin' at Lucky and Super Saver with Calvin Borel up. Maybe he can pull off a third Derby in the mud in a 4 year span. Not sure if Super Saver is really a closer, though. I also like Stately Victor's story and the Mine that Bird-esque vibes he's been giving off.
Also on a side note, I had a dream that I saw a headline that said "American Lion Roars in Derby". Considering I don't like the horse much past his name, take that as a premonition or just my writing brain liking a phrase...
