Teaser Tuesday

May 04, 2010 00:20

I'm so glad I'm able to post from Panthan's Abyss this week. :-) This is a non-spoiler teaser and I'm sharing it just because it makes me smile every time I read it.  Tomorrow I'm going to have a special guest blogging on my LJ. Her name is Chrishawn and she's just one awesome person!  I can't wait for everyone to meet her!

Now we'll get back to the teaser.

“What does death mean?”

“That you’re dead,” Laura thought to herself. She glanced toward the ceiling then down at her notebook.  Her next exhale was more of a sigh, not intentional at all, but Sir Ryan’s “Death” lecture was killing her. And really, hadn’t she seen enough death in her lifetime? Did she seriously need to learn more about it?

The shadows shifted across the floor as her ears picked up his quiet walk. “The literal definition states,” he continued, “that this is the ending of all vital functions in plant or animal life without the possibility of recovery. This brings about that frightening word called mortality, and that, my friends, is the quality or state of being mortal. Now, being mortal means one is destined to die. Death and mortality. Those two words are probably the most hated and feared words in our vocabulary. Can anyone tell me why?”

Students shifted in their seats. Laura tapped her foot against the floor. Why’d he keep on with the questions? No one ever answered.

“The fear of death is the driving force behind everything we do,” Gray said beside her.

At the sound of his voice, her skin tingled. She snapped the rubber band at her wrist, stopping her body’s crazy reaction to him. Because, hello? It wasn’t real. It wasn’t real. Turning in her seat she faced him and mouthed, “Shut up!” All he was going to do was encourage Sir Ryan to keep at it and nobody wanted that.

Plus. She snapped the rubber band again. Even his freakin’ voice was making her tingle. Sheesh. He was turning into one of those “eye candy” Sims.

Gray’s eyes sparkled, laughter brimming at the edges. He ran his tongue across his bottom lip then gently bit at it. The tips of his fangs flashed.

“You’re right, Grayson,” Sir Ryan gushed.  “Laura.”

“Huh?” she asked, turning away from Gray.

Sir Ryan stood in front of her, arms crossed, one eyebrow raised, his head cocked.  “Why do you feed?”

“To live.”

“Why do you fight?”

“So others can live.”
