I hate when someone says stay-at-home-parents are "lucky". It's not by chance I don't have an outside job and it's certainly not because I lack something. I wasn't a stay-at-home-mom until Kathryn was nearly two and if I hadn't had Anna, I would not have stayed at home very long. Anna didn't tolerate being away from me very well. She still doesn't. SAHM is a choice Sam and I made based on living within the means of his salary. He's not "lucky" he made enough money to support us. He's skilled at what he does and even though I've complained about his spending habits, bills are paid on time; we simply don't have the savings that I prefer.

AND. Please don't tell a stay-at-home-parent that you wish you had the time they did. That makes it sound like we don't do anything all day. For the record, I would guess 75% of my day is doing something with the children - cleaning, playing, learning. That's my job.
