Ten Song Shuffle Writing Prompt - Ouran

Jul 21, 2009 23:40

1. Turn on your music and put it on shuffle (random)
2. Write down a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts and stop when it's over. No cheating.
3. Do ten of these and then post what you've created.

And I've given this a run using Ouran High School Host Club.  All are rated G because there's not enough time to make them X rated, though I'm sure it's possible if I tried hard enough.  X3

I.  I’m Chin-Don-Ya - Jun Abe

It was one of those days at the clubs. One of those days were things just seemed to go along without a hitch, and generally that made Haruhi nervous. Things NEVER went without a hitch.

But the twins were occupied with their clients, Honey was enthusiastically downing cake, Mori stood by silently, Kyoya was buried in the ledgers, and Tamaki would have been charming the pants off the girls - granted they had been wearing pants.

With a sigh, Haruhi resigned herself that there were such calm days in the club, that there had to be days, statistically speaking, when things wouldn’t go wrong.

II.  Desert Rose - Sting feat. Cheb Mami

She couldn’t remember whose idea it was to do the Arabian theme again, probably Tamaki’s because he had thoroughly enjoyed the Arabian coffee the first time. She had been initially presented with a very lovely courtesan’s outfit that brought out the girly-girl in her, but she quickly stowed it away and managed to argue convincingly against it.

It wasn’t practical for her, someone who was concealing her gender, to wear such a feminine outfit. Never mind that the skirt looked like it would swirl and swish around her hips, or that the top could actually accentuate what little bust she had. It wasn’t a big deal that the top had crystals sewn on to it, or that there were crystals and seed pearls sewn onto the matching veil wrap.

However Haruhi lost out to her femininity in the end and snuck into the club room early one morning to try on the outfit. She was swaying in front of the mirror when Tamaki and Kyoya walked in on her. The King was elated, the Shadow King secretly pleased, and Haruhi was embarrassed.

But sometimes she just had to be a girl. Even when boy’s clothes were more comfortable and practical.

III.   Sloprano - Conker’s Bad Fur Day

“That is the single most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen,” Haruhi stated, watching the Twins playing on their X-Box. Cute cartoon squirrel be damned, when a giant pile of…poo…started to sing an opera song, things were not right.

“But it’s funny!” Hikaru protested.

“Yeah!” Kaoru chimed in. “You throw toilet paper in his mouth to defeat him.”

“Still disgusting,” Haruhi replied. “I don’t care about the funny factor at all.”

“Honestly Haruhi, it’s not that bad,” Hikaru sighed. “It’s funny. Singing excrement is always funny.”

“And that’s because you’re boys. You think toilet humor is hilarious.”

“What? It is!” Kaoru exclaimed. “Fart jokes are the best.”

Haruhi sighed and rolled her eyes. “And thus we have the intrinsic difference between men and women.”

“But you aren’t a girl,” Hikaru said drolly.

“I am to a girl, which is why I don’t find singing poo funny,” Haruhi said flatly. She glanced at the TV once more. “At all.”

IV.  Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

Tamaki wasn’t aware of when things became an all out competition for the affection of Haruhi. Hikaru was obviously trying for her hand, and even to a small degree so was Cassanova-kun. Kaoru had been rejected flat out, but Tamaki wasn’t going to discount Haruhi’s periodic cluelessness as the main cause - it was entirely possible that she didn’t even realize what Kaoru was telling her when he confessed.

But Tamaki need Haruhi by his side. He didn’t care what anyone thought. She was the brightest, most beautiful person he had ever met. She had brought him so much joy, she saw who he really was, and so he was determined to win his hand.

There was the slight problem of his family though. He knew that his grandmother would never approve of Haruhi as a prospective bride. She was a nobody with absolutely no social standing. As long as his grandmother controlled the family, his chances of being happily married to Haruhi remained slim. Not that he wished his grandmother to die so that his father could instigate the changes that were badly needed, but Tamaki wasn’t such a big idiot as to not know.

But he remained hopeful. Haruhi would be his.

V.  Queen Rutela - Koji Kondo

There was something to be said about a nice vacation. They were all staying at one of the Ohtori vacation homes, on a lake. Haruhi couldn’t remember which one, all she knew was that the view from her room was stunning and opening the window, she felt the cool breeze hit her face.

Yes, there was nothing quite like a nice vacation, even if those damn rich bastards happened to be along with her. At least this way she knew where they were at all times and could avoid them when necessary.

VI.  A Case of You - Joni Mitchell

She wondered just how long she had been in love with him. For that matter, she wondered when she had fallen for him in the first place. It could have been at any time, despite an outward appearance of idiocy he genuinely wanted to help people and make them feel good. Making people feel good made her feel good, and suddenly just being around him made her feel good.

She remembered the dull ache in her chest when she thought that she was going to lose him. She remembered how she hated the idea of him spending all of his time with someone other than her. Somehow she had been dreaming of them being married, which was something that he usually did and something she usually tried to discouraged.

But then she had fallen for him and the idea of life without him seemed very dull. It was more than having the Suoh heir as a contact for her future; it was having him beside her for all of the tears and joy, for the good times and the bad. She didn’t want to be without him. She needed him. Perhaps more than he needed her.

She swallowed the lump in her throat and walked towards him, her mind frantically searching for the words that she needed, but found herself unable to say something. Her mouth was opening and closing, but no words came out. He cocked his head to the side, but remained silent. Finally she found her voice and blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

“I need you.”

VII.  Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) - Green Day

“I want to make them happy, that’s all.”

Haruhi raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. Tamaki’s reasons were his own, and it wasn’t her job to pry. Usually it was safer that way.

“You have to understand that after high school, many of these girls will be expected to marry well and do their wifely duty, but some of them could do more. Should do more. But they will do what is asked of them. Just…just as I will.”

“But senpai, you could do anything you want…” her voice trailed off when she saw the sad look in his eyes. “Right?”

“I wish, but that isn’t always the case. I’ll go with my grandmother’s wishes. Which is why I choose to live in the moment.”

VIII.  All I Ask of You (Reprise) - Gerard Butler

Hikaru felt like he had been punched. Of course Haruhi would choose Tamaki. That idiot was charming and disarming and despite all of his cluelessness about himself, he genuinely cared for Haruhi. He always had.

But he, Hikaru, had been in the habit of treating Haruhi as if she were a plaything. Tamaki treated her like a woman, not like a toy.

It hurt, but there was nothing that he could do. He had lost and the only thing that he could do now was to accept the reality that Haruhi would only ever be a friend. Perhaps Kaoru had been right in resigning himself in the persuit of Haruhi’s affections.

IX.  Sweet Child of Mine - Guns ‘n’ Roses

Everyone had their perfect match. Their soul mate. The yin to their yang. The universe worked in a series of checks and balances, and it was pretty damn obvious. For all of Haruhi’s seriousness, Tamaki was frivolous. Everyone could see it, even the customers who had jumped on board with Renge in the yaoi ship of Haruhi and Tamaki, not even realizing that Haruhi was a girl.

At the moment the pair was standing near a fountain and talking congenially, but it was obvious that there were secret looks between them. Not secret as in they had a shared understanding, but secret as Tamaki would tilt his head a certain way as he talked to her, or Haruhi would touch her hair in just such a way.

Both Mori and Honey wondered when the King would confess, but then realized that perhaps that was premature. They weren’t quite ready yet. They had only recently discovered the part of themselves that cared for the other, but they still had a long way to go before they could confess to each other their feelings.

Perhaps it was better that they wait. To state their feelings prematurely could end disastrously, so their budding romance would remain on the down low for now. However, no matter how hard they tried, the blossoming attraction between them would not remain hidden, at least from the rest of the world.

X.  Calypso - Hans Zimmer

Haruhi tried to remind herself why she had agreed to come to the beach, but as the storm raged outside, she couldn’t do it. She hated storms, hated them with a passion, but the idea of soaking up some sun and playing in the sand and surf had somehow over-ridden the logical part of her brain.

The second large crash of thunder rattled the windows and Haruhi dove into the closet. Damn but she hated these things. She was going to be stuck in this closet the whole time…until a gentle knock startled her.

Of course he wouldn’t leave her alone. He NEVER left her alone. He opened the door slightly and crawled in. She could swear that there was a faint smile on his face as he did so. Not that he found her pain funny, more that he found what he was doing to comfort her funny. And it kind of was.
