Again? Already?

Yeah, I want to hurry this up and get to the sex, so I may skip a bit forward next chappie. Why yes I'm a perv, I learned from Zack!

He wasn’t used to his brother being so off balance. Normally Chaos was a solid block of ruthless emotions; a steady stream of love, need, care, lust and aggression with a mixture of amusement and blood hunger.

Now, in their neighborhood, well within pack territory, almost to the penthouse building, Chaos was still radiating uncertainty. Oh, not obviously of course, but he was feeling a need to mark and posture and challenge. He was battling the instincts of their father’s race, the instincts that said these people were a foreign pack that needed to be subjugated in order for them to pass through alive.

They weren’t the alphas, and that was the only reason they hadn’t given in to those urges. By focusing on Chaos, Vincent was able to ignore his own feelings, and Chaos in turn used the focus to keep away from the killing edge.

This was *their* pack.

The outsiders were welcome because of Cloud. Cloud was the alpha, Cloud allowed this pack into their territory, they would abide Cloud. But they didn’t have to like it.

They had no idea why the child was fascinated with them both, but they could hear it chattering away about food and games and pretty red eyes. What kind of child had no fear of demons? Blood thirsty killer demons at that?

“I see you haven’t lost you love of hights.”

“Oh, the twins take me flying every now and then. This is nothing compared to how high they can take you.”

And Cloud rewarded them for their restraint, smirk and glance enough to know the innuendo was fully intended. Chaos flared his wings in smug pleasure and Vincent himself gave a fanged smile.

“I’m sure. And even if they drop you, you don’t break when you bounce. Of course the poor sap you fall on might not feel the same way.”

“Do you have a problem Squall? Besides the pine tree up your ass?”

Zack was growly on their behalf, bristling and gorgeous and they wanted to remember that look forever, because he would be gone far too soon.

“Stand down.”
“Zack.”

The brunette and Cloud spoke at once, tones the same warning, sharp and lethal cold. Vincent shivered, the mid-day sun seeming to darken as the previous tension returned full force. Seph had a hand raised, lips pressed firmly together as though to prevent a curse. The blond woman mage had both hands facing them, a shimmering caught in the air around them and the tattoos glowing on her face.

“Cloud. Just let us go west. I have nothing to give you that you need or want to hear.”
The leader spoke like he was dead, no emotion in his eyes or voice as he stared down his pack.

But Cloud wasn’t looking at the brunette anymore, he was watching them. Watching Zack and Chaos and Vincent with the look of a man trying to sort out a puzzle in the dark.

Finally he shook his head, pushing Zack into Sephiroth’s arms and forcing the mage to break his spell preparation.

“Squall? Are your friends mad?” The child’s voice was timid, golden eyes like polished coins looking at everyone. “Are they mad at Ashura?”

It was like the ice shattered, the mood swept away inexplicitly. The horned man shook his head and reached out, taking the child from his swordsman carefully.

“No Ashura. It’s just been a long time is all.”

“Your staying. All of you. At least the night. You want to pass though my lands you give me at least that much of your time.” Their Alpha was firm. He would take no dissention, from either ranks.

‘Squall’ shook his head and then agreed, muttering something about boot leather before they all turned to enter the apartment building. The blond mage woman moved up to walk alongside her alpha, a warning threat in the way she moved.

As they sorted themselves out to walk through the doors, Vincent thought he heard something from Cloud about ‘children’.
