Books galore!

I did a really good bargain yesterday. We drove to the city to pick up an audiobook at the library, but on the way there we walked passed the biggest book store we have here (which is still ridiculously small compared to what I've seen in the UK, etc, of course). As a customer came out through the doors, I could see a sign on a large table of books saying "40kr" (meaning all books on said table cost NOK40). Of course, I had to have a peek.

Didn't find anything at that table, but there were several tables with similar signs, from NOK40 to NOK80. If you picked out many books it would be cheaper to pay NOK300, for a whole plastic bag full of books. So, I started browsing. This is what I ended up with (all titles translated by me, to let you know better what kind of books they are, unless they are translated from English. All list prices are for the books binding, paperback or hardcover).

Toril Moi: Ibsen's Modernism/Ibsen and the birth of Modernism: Art, Theater and Philosophy

Ivo de Figueredo: Henrik Ibsen The Human

Three books for the price of one: Wassmo's best: The house with the blind glass veranda, Dina's book, Stories: The journey, the apartment

Three books for the price of one: Bjørneboe's best: Moment of freedom, The sharks, Dutch Hans, selected poems

Three books for the price of one: Skram's best: Sjur Gabriel, Mrs. Inés, Betrayed

Curtis Sittenfeld: Prep

Pauline Téage: Histoire d'O/Story of O

Kamran Nazeer: Send in the Idiots

Leo Lionni: Frederick (Of course, I wish they would have the one about the catepillar as well - it was my favorite book when I was a kid at the appropriate age, and I guess, in a way, it still is)

So, for all of this, I paid NOK300, which equals US$46. All the books combined, with list price, it would amount to NOK2077 or US$322.

When I presented this number to T he was quick to comment that these were books I would not buy for the list price. Although he is correct, most of these are books I have window shopped earlier, some are books I know I should have red (like the [author's] best, and one is a book I just stumbled upon. Either way, I cannot buy every book I deem interesting - not unless we want to have somewhere to live and something to eat.

go me!, books
