Do you ever have this happen? You're watching a science fiction show, or reading a science fiction series, and you learn the canon quite well? Then you read some comment or something on line about it that doesn't make sense with the last 3/4's of the series. And you think that maybe they're stuck in a time loop where the rest of the series hasn't aired yet? And you seriously start to worry about how to get them out?
Or what about this: you're sitting at home one day, watching one of your favourite Britcoms, and suddenly you realize that all of the shows you've watched in the past week except coronation street take place at least partially in the 1940's? And that most of them involve time travel? And dead soliers? And then you realize that your mother has a coronation street book set during the War? And then you get to thinking maybe YOU'RE stuck in a time loop, or some alternate universe or whatever? Weird, isn't it?
How about when you read a lot of a particular book in one go, and then you start talking or writing in the style of the author? Even if they overuse question marks for things that aren't questions? Or if they go on and on about laying in bed, or prancing through forests singing? Sometimes I worry that any ingenious moments I have in writing are merely mimicked from whatever I happen to be reading.
Maybe I should put aside the Bathroom Reader series.
