I don't get no respect
Oh, man. This one's going down in the annals of Students Say the Darndest Things, ESL Edition:
So the students have to complete some sentences, like, " _______ are being fixed __________" is passive, and "are" is plural, so they have to come up with something like "The chairs are being fixed by my dad."
One of the sentences was: "______________ has been drunk." The intended answers being things like, "The water," "The juice," "The cola," &c. &c., but I got not a few responses where the students wrote a name, e.g.: "Tom has been drunk." I was especially amused when they wrote one of their classmates' names. But my favorite?
"The teacher has been drunk."
Minus twenty points, you little smartass.
