CURSE MY LACK OF ORGANIZATION

sfghjhl I hate it when this happens. I'm thinking of a fic idea I had, only it's not just an idea; I'm thinking specifically of some lines/notes I swear I jotted down somewhere, and which are now nowhere to be found. Places I have looked, all of which are common hiding places for fic bits:
  • my WIP folder, including various files with names such as "bits.doc", "stuff.doc", "random.doc", &c.
  • the scratch pad gadget on my Google Desktop bar
  • my primary writing notebook (the paper kind)
  • private LJ posts
So it's probably on a scrap of paper somewhere, or in any of a hundred half-filled notebooks. Either that, or I just thought I wrote it down but didn't actually, which has been known to happen. (But I really, really wrote this one down, I just know it!) It's not that I've lost anything invaluable--I could have reconstructed what little there was from memory in the time I took searching for it (and griping about searching)--but it's the principle of the thing. WHY DO I KEEP LOSING SENTENCES? I need, like, a metal detector. But for scraps of writing. You wave it around and it goes "beep beep" when it finds those words you put down somewhere you can't quite remember. Yes. Why doesn't this exist yet?

dammit janet, argh, writing
