One of the things I love about working in an office is the food that everyone brings in. I've been able to try a lot of interesting dishes and baked goods that I would have a hard time getting on my own. For Ramadan, one of my coworkers brought in a couple of honey cakes. For Mardi Gras last February, my supervisor at the time brought in six king cakes. I've had homemade pot stickers, Swiss chocolate from the Alps, and Spanish food that I'm not familiar with by name, but know tastes great.
Today, some kind soul brought in a box of fortune cookies from World Market. Apparently, the Fortune Cookie Gods think I needed an extra boost, because when I cracked mine open, not one but two fortunes fell out. The first was "Remember three months from this date. Good things are in store for you." The second, "It's time to treat yourself to something special".
Using my specially honed Fortune Cookie Divination Skillz © I'm pretty sure that the latter means it's time for me to stop hemming and hawing and to finally take advantage of the generous coupons for the new spa down the block that my company was passing around. Zee vibrations, zey are strong! My spirit guide tells me zat zeir cheapest service might be within my price range!.
As for the first, I'm marking my calendar for December 18th, and we'll see what happens.
The Fortune Cookie Gods may be bored old men sitting around in a dark back room somewhere trying to come up with trite phrases to make the tourists feel good, but they have to be right at least some of the time, right? Never forget the monkeys with the typewriters.
And if nothing else, I can always amuse myself by playing the "in bed" game.
