Looking for the Perfect Answer

So I have a problem.  My brother has a friend who is one of the organizers for Anime Expo and has agreed to see if she can get me on staff for the event.  This, of course, is really awesome.  Not the difficult part at all.

The problem is work.  Here in security there are 4 of us at this site working on  a rotating schedule of 8 hours to fill the 24 of each day, with 2 days off a week and a required one day overtime a month.  The days I want for the con are the same days that one of my other co-workers has already gotten off.  There are 2 rovers who are trained at this site, and will have been here off and on a few weeks prior due to my boss being out for a week.  They will know the job, but not really.  My concern is that they won't allow the days I want off and I'll want to quit my job to go to a convention.

On one hand I tell myself: 'That's just silly! Who quits their JOB for a CON?!?  If I do quit, where will a get a good paying job in this economy?  There's NO WAY I'm going to put myself in a position to have to move back into my parents house, AGAIN, just because I went to a convention.'

On the other hand I think: 'There ARE two other people who I think will know the job well enough to cover for those five days.  Besides, what's the point of working so much if you can't use the money you're making to do the things you want?  I already feel like I never get to have any fun because I work so much.'  I have actually recently been thinking of looking for another job anyway for that very reason.  One with better,  DAYTIME, hours that doesn't make me work on Sundays.

Of course this is typical me; stressing out over something that might not be a problem, but I really suspect it could be.  I could put in the request and they'll say it's no problem... but I'm worried about it anyway.  So do you think it's worth it?  Should I give it a try and put in the request?  Should I tell my brother's friend that it won't work out, but keep me in mind for next year?  I really want to go though and who knows what could be happening next year.    *sigh* I just don't know.
