I've been trying to write this post for about 10 days now, but just can't seem to get it together, coz more keeps happening and I want to get it all down which apparently results in me getting none of it down. So here are the highlights, and even at that it's a long one:
Friday, Dec. 9 I went to the Depeche Mode concert at Patriot Center with
sleepwalks. Oh. my. god. Dave Gahan is so hot it's wrong, and when it wasn't showing clips from old videos and the like, the large projection screen on stage focused on gratuitous shots of his sweaty nipple, enlarged for everyone's viewing pleasure. There was one point during the concert wherein he traced his hand down the mic stand in a manner akin to trailing it down a woman's belly and coming to rest between her legs. I swear to christ every woman in that stadium had a small orgasm right about then.
Or at least I did.
After the concert, we walked to a gas station to try and catch a cab to take us back to the metro station. Due to the weather and the fact that the Patriot Center is in the middle of fucking nowhere fairfax, the cab companies we called said it would take about half an hour to fifty minutes till a cab would arrive. As we waited we started talking to these two guys who had also been trying to call a cab to get them to the Metro station, and shortly thereafter agreed that we should all take a cab together. The guys were from Chile, and had actually flown to the US just to see DM: They flew into NYC, saw them at Madison Square Garden, then took the bus to DC and saw them at the Patriot Center. We started chatting away and it was good times. At about midnight the gas station clerk said that the store was closing, and that we'd have to wait outside shortly. I noticed a girl on her cell phone in the station; it appeared that she talking to a cab company and requesting a ride to the vienna metro station as well and was also being told that it would be about an hour till a cab came for her, so when our cab pulled up I told her we were going to the metro station and invited her to ride with us, which she did.
The five of us piled into the cab. I sat on
sleepwalks's lap to make room for the girl and one guy, the other guy sat up front in the passenger seat. As we merged onto the highway, the Doobie Brothers' Reelin in the Years came on the radio, prompting
sleepwalks to start humping me in time with the music. The two guys started laughing hysterically; the girl looked rather uncomfortable. Then the guy in the back seat pulled out his digicam, leaned over towards us and snapped a picture of me and him with the chick looking rather frightened, but smiling nonetheless, in between us. Then he took a picture of me and
sleepwalks; his friend and the driver. At some point I turned to the girl and said: "it's alright, we just met them tonight too." Something tells me that didn't make her feel any better.
Alas, the night, like all others came to an end, but not before exchanging email addies and singing Depeche Mode songs to each other till we parted ways at Gallery Place. Hopefully we eventually get copies of those pictures.
Thank you thank you thank you to my dear fiance for springing for my tickets and letting me hold her hand when what I really wanted to be holding was Mr. Gahan's schlong, and for humping me in a cab full of strangers. And joining me in hysterics over some long-haired, leather-clad biker dude carrying a pizza box in an American Flag bandana while his dangly lesbian love earring glinted in the metro lights.
Saturday (December 10th)
aniika and I met up at Mandalay with her friend V. and his friend L. and had a lovely lunch.
aniika and I were in fine giggling form and at one point I actually had to run to the restroom to compose myself; But seeing that the guys weren't put off by it, lunch turned into billiards where i learned that I can shoot just as well with my left hand as I can with my right (which sounds far more impressive than it is considering my lack of skill when shooting with my right), which turned take out from Irene's Pupuseria while watching Animal House at this nifty home theater set up at L.'s office complex, and we finally called it a night at about half past midnight, nearly 12 hours after having left for lunch. Good times.
Sunday I watched Chronicle's of Narnia with our resident grumpy old couple,
jursey_gurl and
drunknmatchmakr. The three of us had a difficult time watching the movie without contemplating how many points we could score for the game due to the strangely hot (goat legs and all) Mr. Tumnas and a nicely chiseled centaur, both of whom prompted us to wonder if it was still bestiality if they were half human and had a human-like sense of consciousness.
drunknmatchmakr earned the quote of the week the end of the flick when, as we watched the kids getting crowned rulers of Narnia, she leaned over to me and said: Even in Narnia slash Heaven, there is heirarchy. And white people.

Monday (still just on Dec. 12...) night I went out to dinner with a new friend and newcomer to the DC area,
griffjon. On a whim we decided to go to Mandalay, and who should we run into as we walked up to the restaurant, but
aniika and
baklaguy, who had also decided to go to mandalay on a whim. The four of us sat together for dinner, with
aniika and I sharing our usual combination of dishes and giggling the night away.
Tuesday brought band practice, like most Tuesdays do. And then, Wednesday morning, I woke up ready to go to grad school.
Just like that.
Thursday night (Dec. 15) I talked to my dad for an hour and a half, bouncing our thoughts off of each other which helped me to narrow down my prospects. Seeing that I've successfully dragged my heels on taking the GRE's, the earliest I'll be able to enroll in any program will be Spring 07, so in the meantime my plan is to take a graduate-level class at each of the institutions I'm interested in for one sem, and see which I like better. At the moment the forerunning program is UMD's MA in International Education Policy, which totally got me and my dad laughing because that's exactly the kind of work he does now.
Since then I've been doing a little bit of this and that. Saw
Memoirs of a Geisha with
aniika on Friday, which was sadly disappointing despite the collective hotness of the cast. Monday went out with
drunkenmatchmakr and
jursey_gurl a night which ended shortly after
drunkenmatchmakr decided to make me chase her l over college park in a drunken game of keep away, and last night accompanied
rainmaker2439 to ikea and target. Other than that been pretty busy at work, started studying for the GRE's, trying to do a teensy bit of christmas shopping, preparing for the move this friday, blah blah blah.
What's nice about it all is that I'm really happy about everything. I love my life. I look at it and it seems to me to be like this enormous expanse of clean silk rolled out over a bed that stretches to the horizon, and it's all mine to do whatever I wish to do with it.
To sum it all up, here's a quote from an interview with my secret boyfriend Mike Patton:
Q. What keeps driving you to discover new grounds when you could presumably sit back and rest on your laurels?
A. Rest on my laurels? Christ, I'm not Roger Daltry! I've still got a lot more. Different types of things.
A lot more. Different types of things.
Fuck yeah.
