Random thoughts...

Just a quick little post for the time being ... I promise I'll post again soon. ;)

But I was talking to my supervisor in the Chemistry Stockroom at Drew, and she was telling me that she was giving some of us "raises" over the next few weeks since we work hard for her. I already make the highest salary that I can, but she's been tacking on a few extra hours here and there to our time-sheets because she loves us. (And I'm actually not being sarcastic there.)

She's been doing mostly everything back here by herself because her partner has been sick for a while. She takes care of operations, ordering chemicals and preparing the advanced labs while he takes care of the preparations for the general and organic labs (among other little things I'm sure). Now that he's gone, we're all feeling the stress to prep the other labs. Some of the seniors (namely two of my good friends, Davena and Stephania, and I) have removed that burden from her shoulders by helping to prep those labs whenever we can.

Other than that my "main job" has been my "project" since Freshman year. The inventory. It's a pain in the ass on good days because for some reason people just can't seem to write down the correct information onto the sheets so that I can enter it into the computer. This means that rather than getting my job done efficiently I need to go to the shelves and check nearly half of the information before I'm satisfied that it's right. (My perfectionism shines through yet again.) But it's recently become my "baby" and I told my boss that no one works on it without my permission. (You laugh, it's true.) That's because when I'm only working on it periodically (and not trying to get a working inventory for the semester ... like now) it seems to mysteriously get screwed up. Then I have to fix it. Rather than do what I intended to do. Do you see why this is such a massive project yet?

But back to my boss. As it turns out, she's also taking us out to lunch at the end of the semester. How sweet. I adore her so much. And I'll miss her like hell when I leave Drew. (She's been begging the seniors to stay because we do so much for the department and once we leave I have a bad feeling that she's really going to feel the weight then.)

What other boss would tell, no demand, that you leave work early and go to the pub on campus with her on Thursday for Happy Hour? And let me curse. And curse with me. And bitch about the professors with me. ;)

You just can't fucking beat that.

Granted I work my ass off for it. But gaining a friend is worth it I think.
