He was good at playing this game. So convincing was his imitation, even he sometimes believed he was one of them.
But when the night came, he would slip away and become himself again. So complete was the transition that he was certain no one who knew him during the day would recognize him, should they see him at night. He worked at night to assure that none of them would see him though. That and because he enjoyed the night.
