Right back into the fire
I don't know if karma or what acted up with me, but I got back from the post-con hotel to kill some time with thechanchan and cubanb before his flight left and found that clearly there was something wrong with my rabbit. She was flopping around, breathing heavily and couldn't even sit upright. So I called firekitty, who was at work today and she had me take M007 over to the pet hospital she used to work at because the doc on shift that day had more experience with rabbits than the one at the hospital she was at today.
I got the bunny in only fifteen minutes later and it she starts crashing. Get her into the back post-haste, the staff at Tri City knows me really well anyway and since Callie called ahead, everyone was ready to rock. I'm in the back with Doc Wentworth and she gives me the diagnosis that M007 is dying and aside from trying a cardiac massage, there's nothing that can be really done. I called Callie to deliver the news and just as I inform her of that, the bunny dies.
There's a fair deal more that happened after that, but much of it was random vet-talk stuff and the end result was that Callie got a ride over and then was given the day off. The general conclusion in the aftermath was that M007 died of liver and/or kidney complications -things that literally can come up out of the blue on a small animal. Which explains why M007 was her usual angry self the day prior and catching a plane into the hearafter today. We were never really sure of the bunny's age, we found her about four years ago, a full-grown rabbit, possibly as old as six years and we suspect a show bunny or something because of a serial number tattoo'ed in her left ear. She seemed too well-behaved for a lab animal and honestly, had a much nicer coat pattern than those kinds of animals normally had. After we found her, we put up posters advertising that she'd been found, but no one ever came forward.
Anyway, that was a fun welcome home. But I figure a moment of silence is in order for the angry little bunny we named after the founder/maintainer of 4chan.
