LB food log: Monday.

Breakfast:
large bowl rice crispies with milk (the kids always have full cream milk)
Think about the huge and protein-dense breakfasts I used to have as a child (cereals then usually a boiled egg and toast, sometimes beans on toast or eggy bread, bacon very occasionally when parents feeling flush). Have tried to offer eggy bread (which both kids like) or other veggie alternatives on numerous occasions, but always rejected.

Going-out-the-door on school run:
Children's multivitamin - A, C, D & E + Omega 3 DHA. They get these when someone remembers (usually them). I don't aspire for them to have them every day.

On way home from school run:
Handful of dried sweetened papaya (carefully extracted by LB from the surrounding nuts and seeds).
Resignedly somewhat frustrated

Mid morning snack:
Nearly a whole packet of those Sesame Snaps things. Label tells me that that was at least 3g of protein
Ambiguous - the seeds are a great contribution to his diet, but they are very sweet and rather processed

Lunch:
3/4 slice soya-enriched bread and butter
2 medium tomatoes
I nibble of anchovy fillet in vinegar
Slightly frustrated but mostly encouraged that he thinks he likes fish more than he actually does. He's generally up for trying fish and will usually say  'mmm, I like it' but then not eat it (unless it's fishfingers). I think this is identity work: ''Mummy and LB eat fish, Daddy and PB (proper vegetarians) don't'. He wants to assert his similarity to me and our difference from the others. But I am encouraged that he continues to think that he likes fish, not because I particularly want him to eat fish per se, but because I want him to keep trying new things, and this means he does (at least within the category 'fish')
I whole Muller corner yoghurt - packet informs me that this was about 20g of protein. A pester power purchase, also influenced by 'Daddy lets me buy them' (not sure whether this is true)

On school run:
Another handful of dried papaya extracted from the seeds and nuts.

While I'm cooking tea:
A few cashew nuts
Smug about my cunning in putting them out early in a bowl

Tea:
medium-to-reasonable bowlful of white rice with pesto and peas
a few mouthfuls of milk

Verdict: bit low on fruit and veg, but I don't worry about this as he usually eats more fruit than this. More processed boughten food than I like. But it does have the benefit of letting you know exactly how much protein he is getting. A quick google tells me that a child his age needs about 20g a day, and he got that in the yoghurt alone. We don't usually have yoghurt (for no good reason - I should start buying plain which he can eat with a bit of jam or stewed fruit) but even without that he may not be far off on his usual good days. Maybe I should chill out about the protein thing. Well, this feels like significant progress, after only 3 days of recording. Hooray for data.
