Blatant bragging

As I was putting LB to bed tonight he was talking about dressing up. He remarked 'we don't say 'dressing down', we say 'dressing up'' (those may not have been his exact words, but that was the gist). I agreed and we talked about something else.

Then, a bit later, probably as I was running through my usual mantra of 'I'll stay til your music runs out, then I'll put it on again, and tuck you and [transitional object] up again, and then I'll say good night and go downstairs AND NO MESSING ABOUT AND CALLING ME BACK MULTIPLE TIMES WITH DEMANDS FOR ANOTHER DRINK AND 'ANOTHER KISS-AND-A-CUDDLE. NO, NOT IN MINE COT, ON THE FLOOR' BECAUSE MUMMY IS FEELING REALLY ROUGH AND SHORT ON PATIENCE AND JUST WANTS TO BE SHOT OF YOU SO SHE CAN GO AND COLLAPSE IN A HEAP'  he said 'And we don't say 'tuck you down'' and we don't say 'snuggle up''

He's only just turned two and a half, and he's thinking about language in the abstract. I am very impressed. Also happy - it's fun having a language-oriented and skilled child. Much more straightforward for me to parent a child like this than one who resists talking about things, like PB.
