And so my friends A (age 3) and S (age 6) wanted to go on a hike with me. So I got to their home at the appointed hour, but alas there was no one home. As I stood there wondering what to do, they drove up in the van with their dad. A was fast asleep, so we just cruised around (ended up at a Starbucks. Go figure) until he woke. And then we wandered around Omand's Creek. Due to drought (I assume), there's not much water in the creek, and we saw no fish, no turtles, no muskrat nor beaver, not even any garter snakes. There were still a few red-winged blackbirds. It was hot. We wandered along the railroad track, and S picked up a huge collection of lovely stones, which I had to carry for her in my pocket. We got to the Assiniboine River before S decided she really had to pee. And so we trekked back as fast as we could - and ended up at the Omand's Creek Ice Cream Company! What relief! Able to pee, eat ice cream, and enjoy a moment of air-conditioning. And S was even able to splash water all over her face and arms. It was huge fun - for all of us.

I want grandchildren. I just may end up adopting some, I guess.
