No One Appreciates Heritage Languages

Jul 19, 2008 00:32

I think I've probably admitted it somewhere, sometime in this journal but Spanish is my [heritage language]! What it means is that I only speak it with my mom. I speak it terribly and I'm so self conscious. What brought this up this topic was this [comment] I left on Furry Art Pile. I look back at it and thing, oh god it's some unrefined and vulgar and nobody educated would appreciate it. I sound like a total ass and hick. [Translation].

I listen to Mexican politicians and smartasses on TV, and educated sounds so pleasant on the ears. I'd love to learn Spanish and learn how to conjugate my verbs right. But, it would be like being in English class or something for me which I hate. I don't want to do these exercises on a language I know so-so, thats icky. Just imagining about learning about gerunds and past tense verbs in Spanish makes me queasy. I just know what my parents taught me and what's on the news. I'm always stumbling on words and I can't communicate most of my ideas to my mom because I don't know words. D:

[Señor Sofisticado] speaks pretty awesome and oh boy, Chavez delivers mega lulz.
