Summer recap

Sep 06, 2009 22:26

So, just realized I have not posted in something like 6 weeks....oops? I constantly think of things I should post, mostly on the drive to or from work, but when I get home, there are too many distractions, especially during the summer.

So, since last update (happy about return of internet after a week without and miserable over Torchwood), I have been rather busy being social with family.

My older (13 years old) nephew was here all of July and into early August. He is really nice and we get along really well (i let him watch Torchwood, how could he not like me?) but he is difficult in the sense that he is incapable of doing anything alone or to think of something to do. He has always been like that. Constantly asking you what he should do...'anything you want'' is not a good answer for him! So he is kind of high maintenance. By the time I would get home from work my mother was quite ready for me to take over entertaining him! We managed a few weekend outings but it was mostly just a hanging around the area sort of month.

In early August we all went to Wales for my sister's 40th birthday at her in-laws house. It was kind of an epic journey for me since my boss only allowed me one day off and no 4 day weekend.  I flew to London on Thursday after work, stayed the night at my sister's in London, took 3 1/2 hour coach ride the next morning to small town in Wales (Chepstow, right on the English border). Next day visited village and hulking huge castle, birthday party in the afternoon, Sunday morning I took 3 1/2 bus trip to airport and was home by 5pm! Back to work the next morning! I needed a vacation by the time I got home!

My parents had flown seperately to Bristol with my nephew and left him in the care of my sister to return to Heathrow after a few days playing tourist in London. My parents stayed in Wales until the end of the week (lucky stiffs!). I had really hoped to be able to take a week off and do both the birthday in Chepstow and visit Wales a bit (I had never been) and finish off with a fan trip to Cardiff with a Torchwood group, but it wasn't to be. sigh.

Mid August, my younger brother arrived from the US with his 5 year old. He had a class to teach is Warsaw and dropped his son off to spend a week with the grandparents. My sister and her husband popped over from London to see them the first weekend they were here. In 3 days we visited 2 castles and attended a wedding! I needed a vacation again! The week with the little one went really well, he isn't nearly as high maintenance as his cousin from earlier in the summer!

Brother came back the next weekend to pick him up and it has been a quiet week since then! One more visitor to go at the end of September (a friend of my parents' who comes every year) and one more wedding to attend, then my parents are off to the US for 5 weeks and I will be home alone!! Yay!! I am all socialized out! They are going in the fall this year because my uncle in Houston is turning 80 and invited them on a cruise!! They are annoyed (!?) much to everyone's total incomprehension;. If someone payed for me to go on a cruise in the Carribean I would be ecstatic!

Last bit of news : I am attending the Hub 3 in Birmingham! Yay! I haven't been to a con in ages! I am taking my sister because she has never been to a con and loves Torchwood (but not the latest one!) and James Marsters will be a guest and she really loved him in BtVS, so it is an early Christmas present!
