The fire’s light burned in his eyes but Jonghyun didn’t dare to blink.
The flames illuminated the whole meadow casting a pitch black shadow on the forest they were surrounded by. They were already standing there for hours and by now even a few left, going to sleep. Not Jonghyun. No, he’ll stand there till the last flame died out and only ember and ash was remaining.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this but Jonghyun’s tears were dried out once and for all. There was nothing left inside him. Only emptiness. Why was it that he felt like half of him was burning down in these flames? How come he weren’t to save the one person he loved the most? The one guy he treasured more than his own life.
But in the end his life was insignificant. He has failed. Taemin was dead and Jonghyun alive. What was that good for? Jonghyun needed the other male to be strong. He needed Taemin to stand up against the enemy they were fighting. He needed the soothing words, the tender and patient personality, the securing hands, the hot lips, to find back to the man he was before the rebellion had started. But Taemin was no longer here, murdered during an ambush.
As the red, yellow and orange flames licked over the wood and the body, now unrecognizable, Jonghyun swore to never give up. So that Taemin’s death was not in vain and when Taemin watches him, that he can be proud. Jonghyun closed his eyes for a second; a song brushed his mind. The song he often had sung with Taemin. So he started the lyrics with a crispy voice.
“Dark the stars and dark the moon
Hush the night and the morning gloom”
The lines slipped out his mouth and into the night to accompany the little fire sparks into the night sky. Jonghyun looked up to the starry firmament hoping that Taemin was save, wherever he may be.
