I've had a response from TWC about the fan charity paper I've talked about a couple of times. Broadly, they like it, but they want me to revise and resubmit with a larger focus on the question of celebrity culture and activism: "The reviewers suggest that the relationship between fan and celebrity is a complex one--even further complicated by request for/calls to activism. All of these are questions that would fruitfully be addressed further in the essay." Some of the comments I had from friends who read the paper did say that I might be preaching to the choir a bit in terms of attitudes towards fans, so I wasn't surprised by any of the changes I've been asked to make. The reviews were also much more nicely worded than the last one I had which said that I couldn't write! So that's always a good thing. They want the revised article in by June 15th, which might be a bit of a push seeing as I have a section of my lit review, book chapter and methodology essay due at varying stages through May and June, and another book chapter due at the end of June. Thankfully I have 11 days off work (including weekends and bank holidays) so I'm going to head to bed shortly and crack on with it all tomorrow.
I did want to ask though, whether any of you could recommend any recent books/articles which look at celebrity culture and its connection to (fan) activism. A lot of the stuff I've referenced they feel is too old, so I need more recent examples/articles/discussions to look at and this isn't a field in which I've done much reading. I'd be massively grateful for any help any of you can give me in this!
