Saw this van on 6th Avenue today and of course loved it. Intrigued by the concept as well as the cute paint job, I checked out their website (
www.doggywagon.com) and found out that Doggy Wagon offers four basic services.
1. Drives your pet to vet appointments. Their website doesn't mention who brings the dog inside the animal hospital and talks to the vet, so I assume they just drive you with your dog and you go into the vet's office yourself. Why wouldn't you just use a cab in this instance?
2. Airport pickups and dropoffs. Kind of a good idea, I guess, but if you were expecting a new puppy, wouldn't you be excited enough to go to the airport and pick up your new dog by yourself? And if you are shipping your dog off somewhere, wouldn't you want to bring it to the airport yourself to make sure it gets off safely? Kinda cold if you ask me, shipping your pooch off by a stranger. Poor doggy.
3. Dog taxi for around the city. This is brilliant. Think of divorces and breakups that end up in fights over who gets the dog. If you share ownership, now you don't have to deal with your ex as you drop off the dog. This is a beautiful thing. I've never personally fought with an ex over a dog but it sounds unpleasant. Doggy Wagon charges $25 to $35 to chauffeur doggy around Manhattan.
4. Road trips for doggies. This also sounds like a reliable way to transport your pet if you don't have a car. Sending your mutt to Boston? That'll cost you $400, plus gas and tolls. You could probably find someone on Craigslist to do it for cheaper, but if you have the bucks, I'd probably go with the Doggy Wagon for peace of mind.
