Hello there...unpronounceable ones

May 20, 2010 17:07

The London 2012 mascots were unveiled yesterday. Here they are.

They are Wenlock and Mandeville (in that order in the picture too) and have been made from the bits of steel from the Olympic Stadium (I vaguely remember they said this last night on TV but I could have dreamt it so don't believe me completely.) They are apparently going to be touring (I think the world) and getting to know people and people to know them. And then in 2012 they will come back to London for the start of the games.

People are very divided on them. I know they are targetted at an audience that does not include people my age or older. They are for children, trying to promote sports to children. But, and probably because of that, they are childish in design and cute, if that word can be used for things made out of metal.

I don't hate them, but they do have to grow on me. And I hope they do.

What do you all think?

Live long and prosper!

xoxo
