The Wisdom Trust

Yesterday an email was sent to me outlining my first official duties as an Editorial Assistant for The Wisdom Trust and it outlined some of the things I would need to do every day.

So this morning (or early afternoon as it turned out to be) I armed myself with a computer and found myself here. The whole concept of the charity is not to have individuals donate money, but to have take part in the Wisdom IQ or Wisdom Aware quizzes. The more questions you anser, the more FCs (Fundraising Credits) you collect. And those are converted into funds for the charity of your choice.

And boy, have I learnt a bunch of stuff today. For example:
  • Chlorine bleaches and waste incineration are major sources of dioxins in the environ, causing headaches, allergies and even long-term health damage

  • A total of 2,400 litres of water is required to produce one hamburger.
  • $20 billion would provide reproductive health for every woman in world  and yet $21 billion is spent on perfumes each year in Europe and the USA.
  • 24,000 people die in the USA per year because of dirty power plant pollution
And this is the one that shocked me the most:
  • The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.
If you have a moment please take a look at the site here and if you have some time to spare please try and raise some FCs.

Thank you all!
