Title: Normalcy
Fandom:D.Gray-man
Genre:General/Humor
Characters:Kanda Yuu,Rabi,Lee siblings
Word Count:580 words
Notes:Kinda inspired by Kanda’s Talkroom response regarding Komui’s obsession with Linalee.

The soba on his table looked really sumptuous but Kanda Yuu barely gave any interest. It was as if the noodles transformed into his detested bean sprouts, and the steamy broth became stale soup. He barely touched his food.

Rabi found his lack of enthusiasm for soba to be quite unusual. After knowing the Japanese for so many years, the Junior Bookman was certain there was nothing in the world that was capable of making Kanda lose his appetite for his favorite noodle dish.

“That’s sickening.”

Well, almost nothing.

Curious, Rabi looked behind him to follow Kanda’s line of vision. He was surprised to discover that the raven-haired Exorcist’s disgust seemed to be directed towards two people.

The Lee siblings. The publicly affectionate Lee siblings.

Rabi allowed his gaze to quickly travel from the two, back to Kanda. Settling his attention more carefully on the other boy, the redhead finally noticed the occasional eye twitches, the irritated huffs of breath and the overall displeased expression.

“Look at them,” he heard the Japanese grumble. Rabi returned his gaze to the Chinese pair. He saw Komui wiping off the traces of ketchup that were near the corner of Linalee’s mouth. She smiled at her brother; the bespectacled man grinned back. Rabi thought it was a normal scene between siblings--the Lee siblings especially; Kanda thought their closeness in public was too much.

“Che’ they could have ,at the very least, been more subtle,” Kanda complained as his chopsticks repeatedly stabbed the noodles on his bowl. “Don’t they know that some people here are bothered by totally public displays of affection? How inconsiderate!”

Rabi looked around him. He mumbled a ‘hmmm’ upon seeing that the rest of the people inside the cafeteria were too busy gorging on Jerry’s sumptuous meals to pay attention to the Chief Monitor and his younger sister. Rabi smirked as he looked back at Kanda.

“Ne, it seems to me you’re the only who’s bothered…”

“Who the hell asked for your opinion?!”

If he were any other person, right then he would have immediately cowered at the sight of Kanda’s dagger-like glare-or maybe he would have retorted with angry words of his own. But he was used to this, really. Kanda’s volatile temperament was nothing new. To him, a grumpy Kanda was equivalent to normalcy.

What wasn’t normal was Kanda being bothered by something as normal as the Lee siblings’ closeness. If he didn’t know the other boy better, he would have assumed that he was…

Wait a minute…

Rabi furrowed his brow, and stared at Kanda. “Hey Yuu…”

Kanda looked at him. “What?!” he snarled.

“…Are you jealous?”

Surprised expressions crossed the Lee’s siblings’ faces upon seeing the redhead standing before their table. A minute ago, they had seen him eating with a certain long-haired Japanese, but now here he was, grinning sheepishly while he held his tray in hand.

“Uh…. Hi…is it all right if I join you guys? “

Though confused as to why he left his Japanese companion alone, the Chinese Exorcist nodded and welcomed the boy to their table. “Sure, have a seat.”

At her response, Rabi set down his tray and took the empty chair across her. “Thanks.”

“Rabi,” Komui began to say as soon as the redhead settled down. Fixing the frame of his glasses, he eyed Rabi questioningly. “…What did you do this time?”

Rabi scratched his head. “Nothing, really,Komui.” He grinned sheepishly again. “I just asked him a question.”

Fin.
