[Steps into the office, barely looking up from his notes on the new student. Hopefully, this Arthur Pendragon's already here--if they start the tour late, there's a good chance they both won't make it to their first class of the day.]

[Transferring to a new school wasn't his idea, but what with his dad being a business man, moves were inevitable. Arthur's running a bit late to his first day, and the tour with some teacher or other he couldn't remember the name of, but it wasn't long before he entered the office casually.]

[It had only been a few minutes, really, but when Merlin had realised the new student wasn't there, he'd let his attention wander off. Naturally, this means Arthur's entrance takes him by surprise. Jumping a bit, Merlin drops the pen he'd been chewing on so thoughtfully just before the door had opened.]

O-oh, hello. [He straightens sheepishly.] I guess you're Arthur, right?

...Are you the teacher I'm supposed to meet? [Blink. Blink. Eyebrow raise. He looks fairly young, for a teacher.]

That's me! [Unaware of Arthur's scrutiny, Merlin detaches himself from the chair and offers Arthur a hand, beaming.] I'm Merlin Emrys, the Literature teacher around here. Have you got everything settled? We should begin your tour so you'll have time to get to your first class.

[A pause, but he smiles amusedly, taking his hand.]

I could have mistaken you for a student, almost.

[Rather than taking offense, he just grins cheerfully, holding the door open for Arthur.] It's the ears, isn't it? You wouldn't believe how many times I've heard that since I started teaching.
