[Vane's been home for a while. Really, he's glad. But the issue is that he's been head over heels for his Jack, which is something he never expected -- not that he had a problem with that, and far from it. She was good to him even before he considered the possibility of an emotional entanglement.
Maybe it's cheesy to slide her a pair of cards face-to-face, which, when revealed, are the Two and the Jack of Clubs. Maybe it's cheesy to turn on the music that plays a quiet but determined classical tune featuring a piano. Maybe it's cheesy to kneel in front of her, take one of her hands in his.]

Even if she really, quite frankly, could not have been more surprised than she is right now.
It's silly, perhaps; that after Ethan and the Dafydd she had considered that she just wasn't meant for romance. And, really, she was okay with that -- well, as okay as one could ever be. ]
